So, what is the CaptainsCast? First and foremost, it is not a Star Trek podcast. Sorry trekkers, but this site is not for you. What it is though is a project I developed in October of 2008. I had wanted to start podcasting, but wanted subject matter that was a bit out of the ordinary from all of your other everyday content. I thought long and hard of what I wanted to do. I never realized that I had all of the subject matter right under my own roof.

My son Ben was a bit of a shy child. He was never one to speak up in class, volunteer for anything, or be very outgoing. In some cases his shyness caused some severe anxiety issues as well. How could I help him with this? The main thing I did was simply spend time with him and have some father-son bonding time. We soon developed a bit of a rapport that all parents and their kids go through. He has his interests and I have mine. I don’t understand his interests, and he doesn’t understand mine. Mine, of course, being a love of nostalgia from the 70′s and 80′s – my formative years.

This was the spark for our own podcast – the CaptainsCast. The original tagline was ‘a podcast dedicated to spanning the generation gap between an 80′s geekdad and his son. We talk about father-son stuff, toys, video games, movies, school, and anything else we can think of.

From the CaptainsCast came other ideas for podcasting. And a bigger website to provide listeners with a portal to my different subject material. At www.captainscast.com you will find not only the original CaptainsCast, but links to pages containing other podcasts including the Time Machine Toychest, Weekly Word Podcast, the Overgrown Boy Scout, and even more to come.

I welcome your comments, feedback, and questions.
